By Winnie Chemutai | 20 July 2025 | Bomet County— On Saturday, July 19, 2025, Dr. John Mosonik, a respected academic, development champion, and public servant, chaired a high-level strategic meeting at Kimawit Primary School. The meeting brought together the school’s Board of Management and leading scholars from the Kenya Bomet Association of Scholars and Academicians (KEBASA) to chart a progressive development roadmap and foster partnerships with universities.
Central to the discussions was the South Rift Digital Hub, a cutting-edge facility sponsored by Safaricom, currently under development within the school grounds. Once completed, it is expected to be the most advanced digital innovation centre in the region. The hub will provide vital access to digital tools and learning resources, especially for young people in rural communities, and will serve as a springboard for digital literacy, innovation, and youth empowerment.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Mosonik emphasized the crucial role scholars must play in societal advancement.
“In every progressive society, scholars are the torchbearers of transformation—shaping minds, guiding policy, driving research, and offering lasting solutions in health, technology, governance, and beyond,” he said.
The meeting featured active participation from professors, PhD holders, and lecturers affiliated with KEBASA, alongside school leaders and community representatives. Discussions focused on long-term collaboration between institutions of basic and higher education, digital curriculum integration, mentorship initiatives, and strategies to support learners from underserved backgrounds.
The South Rift Digital Hub project was widely praised as a transformative investment in the future of the region. One local education official described it as “a bold step toward bridging the digital divide and preparing our children for a competitive global environment.”
Later in the day, Dr. Mosonik was joined by AGC Bishop Rev. Dr. Robert Lang’at for a special thanksgiving service at Uswet Full Gospel Church—a church whose construction he spearheaded and completed through personal commitment and community support.
The church, now a fully completed and functional house of worship, was filled with members of the congregation who came together to offer thanks to God.
“We must continue to build both minds and morals through education and faith,” said Dr. Mosonik. “This is how we walk together toward a better tomorrow.”
Dr. Mosonik’s dual engagements on this day—championing digital transformation through education and reaffirming the community’s spiritual foundation—demonstrate a holistic approach to leadership that places equal value on intellect and integrity.
As the South Rift region positions itself as a hub of rural innovation and resilience, the work being done at Kimawit Primary School and Uswet Full Gospel Church is a testament to what can be achieved through vision, unity, and unwavering faith.
