Murang’a County is set to host its first-ever investment conference on June 13–14, 2025, at Thika Greens Golf Resort, marking a significant milestone in its economic development journey. The event, expected to attract local and international investors, will spotlight key investment sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, education, manufacturing, and tourism.
Spearheading the initiative is the Murang’a County Budget and Economic Council, an elite team of professionals, business leaders, academics, and policymakers. The council was established to provide strategic direction on the county’s economic transformation agenda and is chaired by Dr. Peter Munga, EGH, the renowned founder of Equity Bank. “This is a moment for Murang’a to rise, to showcase our untapped potential, and to attract investment that will empower our people,” said Dr. Munga. “With the right partnerships and vision, we can redefine the economic destiny of this county.”
Visionary Leadership with National and Global Reach
The council includes some of Kenya’s most distinguished personalities. Among them is Dr. S.K. Macharia, founder and chairman of Royal Media Services, East Africa’s largest private broadcaster, and Jimnah Mbaru, chairman of Dyer and Blair Investment Bank and former chairman of the Nairobi Stock Exchange.
Other council members include:
- Prof. Macharia Muthure, Chairman of Equity Group PLC and Chancellor of Karatina University.
- Dr. Kanyenje Gakombe, CEO of Nairobi Metropolitan Hospital and Chair of the Healthcare Federation of Kenya.
- Prof. Zipporah Nganga, Vice Chancellor of Mama Ngina University.
- Dr. Eng. John Mosonik, former Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure and current board member at Safaricom PLC.
- Amb. Muthoni Gichohi, former Ambassador to China, and a veteran diplomat and legal expert.
The council also boasts notable academics such as Prof. Felicita Njuguna of Kenyatta University and Prof. Dickson Nyariki, Vice Chancellor of Murang’a University of Technology, as well as tech innovator Dr. Gibson Kimutai, a specialist in AI, and Internet of Thins for Sustainable development.
A Platform for Investment and Partnership
Murang’a Governor Dr. Irungu Kang’ata, who also sits on the council, emphasized the significance of the event in positioning the county as an investment hub. “This conference isn’t just a one-time event; it is part of a long-term strategy to connect investors with real opportunities on the ground,” said Dr. Kang’ata.
Deputy Governor Stephen Munania, Kenya’s youngest deputy governor at 32, added that the county’s youth and innovation agenda will feature prominently at the forum.

The council also includes honorary members drawn from major corporations based in Murang’a. These include Chris Flowers, Managing Director of Kakuzi Plc, and Wayne Cook, Managing Director of Del Monte Kenya Ltd both companies being key players in agribusiness.
The conference is expected to feature keynote addresses, sector-specific deal rooms, exhibitions, and investment site visits. It will also be broadcast live by NTV, ensuring wider national and diaspora engagement.
