Nairobi, Kenya – June 15, 2025
A 26-year-old woman is in police custody after being arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for attempting to smuggle cocaine out of the country.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, identified as Wendy Mbeke Muli, was apprehended on Friday shortly after boarding an outbound flight. Airport authorities grew suspicious of her demeanor during a routine passenger screening.
“It was soon established that she had concealed foreign substances inside her body cavity, prompting immediate medical observation,” the DCI said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
While under observation, Muli requested to use the washroom, where she reportedly excreted two pellets. By Saturday, she had excreted six more pellets, all of which were confirmed to contain cocaine.
In total, the recovered pellets weighed approximately 626.65 grams.
Anti-Narcotics detectives at JKIA are finalizing investigations and preparing to arraign Muli in court on Monday, June 16, where she is expected to face drug trafficking charges.
The arrest is the latest in a series of intensified operations by Kenyan authorities aimed at combating international narcotics smuggling through key transit points.
