Nairobi, Kenya – June 16, 2025
In a bold and fiery statement released today, former Chief Justice and 2027 Presidential hopeful David Maraga has launched what he terms “Operation 3L” – the 3rd Liberation of Kenya – aimed at confronting impunity within the country’s security sector and rallying Kenyans toward constitutional reform and justice.
The statement, issued from the Maraga 2027 campaign headquarters, centers around the recent brutal murder of Mr. Albert Omondi Ojwang’, a case that has sparked national uproar and accusations of high-level cover-up involving top security officials.
Allegations of a Cover-Up at the Highest Levels
Maraga’s statement alleges that key figures, including the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Inspector General (IG) of the National Police Service, and the Deputy IG Mr. Eliud Lagat, lied under oath about their roles in the murder of Mr. Ojwang’. The statement calls out the “patently contradictory” remarks from these officials, claiming they were deliberate attempts to cover up a crime committed by those tasked with maintaining law and order.
President William Ruto did not escape criticism either. Maraga condemned Ruto’s public response to the killing as “callous and calculated,” asserting that the president has consistently evaded accountability for widespread kidnappings and extrajudicial killings under his administration.
Call to Action: Arrests, Prosecutions, and Public Demonstrations
Maraga outlined three urgent action points:
- Immediate Arrest of DIG Eliud Lagat: Citing prima facie evidence of involvement in the illegal arrest, torture, and murder of Mr. Ojwang’, Maraga demanded Lagat’s arrest and prosecution. “Integrity demands that we must end impunity,” he wrote.
- Institutional Reset of NPS, DCI, and IPOA: Accusing these institutions of perjury and abuse of office, Maraga emphasized the need for a systemic overhaul. He announced his support for private prosecutions already filed and vowed to join if no government action is taken by June 25th, 2025.
- Support for Public Protests: He pledged to personally participate in peaceful demonstrations planned for June 25, standing in solidarity with citizens demanding justice. “Let us come out in large numbers from now onwards to reset our country,” he urged.
A Nation at a Crossroads
The press statement paints a bleak picture of a nation plagued by “runaway extra-judicial executions” and a leadership “deaf to the life and suffering of Kenyans.” Maraga warns that the failure of Ruto’s government to act on past abuses, particularly the alleged killings of young people in 2024 and 2025, marks a dangerous turning point.
Calling on the memory of the 2010 Constitution and the promise it held, he emphasized the need for a reset to rebuild trust in public institutions and uphold the rule of law.
The 3rd Liberation: A National Awakening
Maraga’s Operation 3L echoes Kenya’s historical struggles for political freedom, casting this current movement as the next chapter in the country’s fight for justice. He calls on Gen Z and all Kenyans to unite courageously against a “cruel regime” and usher in a new era.
“Kenyans long for humanity restored; a reset to the place where collectively, we gave rise to a new Constitution that ushered in great hope,” Maraga concludes. “Let us come out in large numbers from now onwards to reset our country to constitutionalism and the rule of law.”
As the June 25 protests approach, all eyes will be on the government’s response and whether Maraga’s call ignites a movement powerful enough to reshape the nation’s future.
