In a region where political giants have long dominated the headlines, Hon. Brighton Yegon, the youthful and dynamic Member of Parliament for Konoin Constituency, is quietly rewriting the script through an unmatched focus on infrastructure, service delivery, and grassroots empowerment.
Elected on the strength of his humility and development record, Yegon has evolved into one of Bomet’s most influential leaders delivering where many have only promised. As murmurs grow louder about the 2027 gubernatorial race, his name is increasingly mentioned alongside political heavyweights like former Governor Isaac Ruto and former PS Dr. John Mosonik.
Roads That Connect, Roads That Empower
Under Hon. Yegon’s leadership, Konoin has witnessed an unprecedented road transformation. Key rural access roads have been tarmacked, and over 100 kilometers of gravel roads have been opened or rehabilitated. Roads like Cheptalal–Kimulot, Mogogosiek–Sotik, and Kipkelion–Chepkolon are no longer impassable seasonal traps—they are arteries of commerce and opportunity.
Bridges across flooded rivers and steep valleys—such as Kapnyemisa, Boito, and Emenwa—are changing the lives of farmers, students, and healthcare seekers, enabling easier access to markets, schools, and hospitals.
Modern Classrooms, Better Futures
In education, Hon. Yegon has not just built schools—he has created centers of excellence. With CDF support, dozens of schools now boast modern science labs, digital learning centers, and new dormitory blocks.
Schools like Kapkoros Boys, Koiwa Secondary, and Chepchabas Girls have benefited immensely, pushing up performance and enrollment rates. The MP has also provided desks, textbooks, and even shoes for learners in underprivileged communities—actions that go beyond politics to touch lives.
Water and Sanitation: A Promise Delivered
Before Yegon’s tenure, many Konoin residents walked for kilometers in search of water. Today, through partnerships with NGOs, the national government, and the CDF office, boreholes have been sunk in Motiret, Kibugat, and Kiptagich. Gravity-fed water systems now serve thousands in Boito and Embomos.
Water tanks have also been distributed to schools and health facilities, improving hygiene, boosting agriculture, and reducing time spent on water collection—especially for women and children.
Lighting Up Lives: Electrification for the People
Electricity coverage has jumped significantly since Yegon took office. Through aggressive engagement with Kenya Power and the Last Mile Connectivity Programme, hundreds of homes, schools, churches, and trading centers have been lit up.
From Chemosot to Chebilat, streetlights now shine where darkness once ruled. Youth in small towns have launched businesses, cyber cafés, and entertainment spots—fueling a growing rural economy.
Healthcare That Works
Yegon understands that no development is meaningful without health. He has renovated and equipped several dispensaries and health centers across Konoin. His push for more community health volunteers (CHVs) and support for maternal services is evident in clinics in Boito, Kapketet, and Chepchabas.
Discussions are underway to partner with the County Government to establish a Level 4 facility in Konoin—bringing advanced medical care closer to the people.
Youth, Women, and Digital Transformation
Through innovation hubs and ICT centers, Yegon has helped youth access Ajira Digital Training, YouTube monetization, and skills in software development and e-commerce. In partnership with NGOs, women groups now access microcredit and revolving funds to boost table-banking and agribusiness ventures.
The 2027 Question: Yegon vs Isaac Ruto vs John Mosonik?
As Bomet heads toward the next electoral cycle, the political winds are shifting. Former Governor Isaac Ruto remains a towering figure, known for his fiery speeches and championing of devolution. Dr. John Mosonik, the technocrat with a national and international footprint, has signaled interest in county leadership.
But Brighton Yegon is the emerging disruptor.
While Ruto and Mosonik speak in boardrooms and rallies, Yegon is winning hearts through results on the ground—transforming schools, tarmacking roads, and empowering youth. His humility and accessibility have made him a grassroots favorite, and there’s growing consensus that he could mount a serious bid for Bomet Governor in 2027.
A Leader Whose Work Speaks Louder Than His Words
In a political environment often defined by rhetoric and tribal loyalty, Hon. Brighton Yegon is quietly building a legacy rooted in action. His work across Konoin speaks not only to his vision but also to what’s possible when leadership is grounded in integrity and community service.
As Bomet looks to the future, it may very well be that the road to county transformation runs through Konoin—and it’s being paved by Hon. Brighton Yegon.
